Big Bear Boring Bob is a Big Bear Lake based company offering Heavy Equipment Mechanic services locally and world-wide. Owner-operator Bob Varga has 30 years experience operating, and 21 years experience repairing heavy construction equipment.
Bob has extensive training in the repair of different makes of oil field engines, rear-ends, gear boxes, transmissions, tub levelers, hydraulics, welding fabricating, pumps, brake systems, welding and oil well pumps. His truck is a full-service mobile shop, outfitted from top to bottom with welder, compressor and crane. Completely equipped to weld steel and aluminum in the field he is ready to take on any task, including re-sizing bushings. When needed, he can take any out-of-round hole, weld it and resize it to accept the original size bearing that fits, such as in equipment arms, buckets, center pins.
The Big Bear Boring Bob mobile rig is prepared to respond to rough & tough jobs such as replacing water well pumps, repairing drive shafts. The fork lift with crane is able to pull a transmission, chassis, gear box or rear-ends. Size doesn’t matter as Bob can handle the ‘big guys’ such as Caterpillar, Case, John Deere, Peterbilt, and other makes. He can also do D.O.T. inspections on Class A, B or commercial vehicles as well as assist with required paperwork.
As a contractor in the Middle East for 13 years, Varga worked in the oil fields in Qatar (located on the Arabian Gulf), repairing drilling equipment both on and offshore. Bob also helped erect prefab homes and install generators. In the Wyoming oil fields Bob worked as a lead mechanic.
Since Bob and his wife moved to the Big Bear Valley in the late 80’s, Bob has worked as a heavy construction mechanic, performing numerous difficult jobs including building and overhauling crushing plants.
