State Route 18 at 4000 foot level





Running Springs, California, ____ Saturday, February 18, 2017,

#1   at approximately 9:00 A.M., California Highway Patrol Officers, stationed at the  Arrowhead Headquarters, responded to the scene of a suspected traffic collision on State Route-18 at the 4000 foot level. 

Jennifer Mae Shipcott, a 45 year-old resident of Riverside, California, driver of a white, 2012, GMC Terrain, had driven the mountain road, southbound on SR-18.   For an unknown reason, Shipcott drove her vehicle into a turn-out at the 4000 foot level, over the south curb edge of the turnout and the GMC went down a steep hillside.  Her vehicle overturned several times before coming to rest on its left side in the number two lane of SR-18.  Shipcott sustained fatal injuries as a result of this accident.

The accident is being investigated by Officer Bates, ID, 18392, as a suicide. 

#2   Later Saturday evening, a separate incident happened at the same location, on State Route-18.  In this incident, Paul Albert Chuderski, a 42 year-old resident of Riverside, California, drove his black, 2005, Nissan Titan, off the road at the same location of the Shipcott incident. 

Chuderski was been identified as the boyfriend of Shipcott.  The Chuderski  incident is being investigated by Officer Valdez, ID, 20872, and is being investigated as an attempted suicide.

A number of storm-related incidents, including a fatality on State Highway 18, plagued motorists both on the mountain and off.

Two separate vehicles that plunged down a steep hillside on Highway 18 on Feb. 18 are being investigated as a possible suicide and attempted suicide, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) announced in a press release.
