Now in its 15th year, Art on the Lake is always a highpoint of summer in Big Bear Lake. On August 16 and 17, more than 60 artists will show and sell work in painting, ceramics, jewelry, digital art, pottery, photography and much more. Along with meeting the artists and viewing their work, this year visitors can enjoy strolling the newly renovated Village of Big Bear Lake with its stunning floral landscaping against a beautiful backdrop of mountains and pines.

Enjoy food, a wine and the beer garden. Live entertainment by an eclectic mix of alternative folk bands and singer/songwriter musicians will be performing on the large center stage.

Admittance and parking are free. Art on the Lake is held at The Bartlett events Center at 630 Bartlett Road in Big Bear Lake. For more information, visit or email

About the Artists

More than sixty artists and artisans will be showing and selling their work, with some artists demonstrating their techniques to attendees. Three exhibitors are profiled here:

Husband and wife Catherine and Ovie Cowles are long-time Art on the Lake exhibitors, with their unique method of using botanicals to create home décor that is both useful and beautiful.

Berndt Heidemann is also a frequent exhibitor. A painter who designed for film and TV in a previous life, Heidemann’s large mixed media paintings of vintage cars and celebrities challenge the viewer to see these familiar images through different eyes.

David Schwartz studied painting in Italy, but his subject matter is entirely Americana. In his seascape paintings, the shoreline and American flags are combined in a dreamlike montage. In contrast, his other pieces use humor and images mixed in unexpected ways to entertain the viewer.
