On June 5 2010, Big Bear Lake, California welcomed home thirteen-year-old Jordan Romero. Jordan is a young, world famous mountain climber and motivational speaker who holds the world record as the youngest person to climb and summit Mt. Everest.
On Wednesday June 9 2010, Jordan was the Guest of Honor as the mountain town of Big Bear Lake helped Jordan enjoy a big homecoming to celebrate the achievement of his dream.
The Seven Summits – Jordan has climbed:
Africa- Kilimanjaro – July 22, 2006
Australia- Kosciuszko – April, 2007
Europe/Russia- Elbrus – July 11, 2007
South America- Aconcagua – December 30, 2007
North America- Denali – June 18, 2008
Oceana- Carstensz Pyramid – September 1, 2009
The eighth-grader, who graduates from Big Bear Middle School this summer, reached the top of the world’s highest mountain May 22. Joining him on the climb were three Sherpas, his father Paul Romero who is a flight medic and experienced mountaineer, and his father’s girlfriend, Karen Lundgren who is an adventure racer and mountaineer.
Jordan’s love of climbing began in the fourth grade and it was his dream to climb the seven summits of the world. He scaled his first peak at age 10. The dangerous climb to Mt. Everest marked the seventh.
His next goal is Mt. Vinson Massif in Antarctica, the coldest place on Earth. Antarctica is
a giant hurdle both logistically and financially, so along with
training will be a massive fundraising, sponsorship effort.
"Logistically we must battle an age restriction that exists on
flights going to base camp and currently Jordan is 3 years too
young to fly. We’re currently politicking to obtain special
permission, but it may result in a giant, multi-week trek to the
base camp region near the South Pole.
If Jordan succeeds, and he has full momentum and motivation to
do just that, he will become the youngest person to climb the
Seven Summits of the World, and Mt. Everest" said Paul Romero. Along the way, Jordan will educate and inspire youth around
the world.
To support his efforts, Jordan has taken on fundraising in a
most unique way. Jordan is practicing his public speaking skills. He's done more than a
dozen presentations to crowds as large as 400, including outdoor industry insiders, schools, community
organizations and clubs. It's a multimedia show that educates, entertains, and inspires. It’s here that Jordan
really shines and has the opportunity to share his message of health, fitness and the protecting the
environment. His message and delivery will restore your faith that our youth will lead this country one day.
