  • Moonridge Animal Park (Curator -Don Richardson) located in Big Bear Lake, is the only Zoo in San Bernardino County, and one of the only two alpine Zoos in the entire United States.
  • The Park’s mission is to educate and promote an understanding of alpine forest wildlife to produce harmony between people and nature.
  • An average of 75,000 people visit the Zoo yearly, in addition to the 8,400 school children.
  • Since its inception 41 years ago, MAP has been involved in the care, rehabilitation and release into the wild of injured, orphaned or confiscated animals. Some 8,000 animals & birds have been brought to the Zoo by State, County and Federal agencies, other Zoos and the public for care and display. The majority have been successfully rehabilitated and released back into the wild, while those whose injuries or imprinting on humans have made release impossible, have been given homes for life at the Park.
  • The collection of 127 animals includes a Grizzly bear family from Yellowstone, the first Grizzlies to set foot in the Big Bear Valley since the early 1900s. Apso, an endangered snow leopard, Wood Bison, Fishers (cousin to the wolverine) ringtail cat and coatimundi are some of the unusual inhabitants at the park. Other wildlife include bears, wolves, coyotes, foxes, raccoons, cougars and bobcats. Birds of prey include eagles, owls, hawks and falcons. Photo Strike Team USA
