Starts in July with the Old Miners Calcutta Dinner & Ends August 2nd with the Old Miners Parade
  • The golden days in Holcomb Valley and the various town sites scattered throughout the rugged wilderness, date back to the 1850’s. Prospectors settled all over the San Bernardino Mountains, with dreams of striking gold. Many of the settlers were disillusioned with the harsh winters, disease, limited supplies and inadequate mother-lodes. Some of the miners who established a life in the mountains left a wealth of stories that would be told from generation to generation through Big Bear chronicles. The struggles and the triumphs are the rest of California’s Gold Rush Story that Old Miners Days celebrate each year. For more than fifty years, prospectors with their packed burros gathered in the Mojave Desert. In summertime heat, they trailed through the Lucerne Valley & up the steep terrain to Big Bear Valley. Miners identified by their badges and buttons guided trains of mules and burros, in commemoration of the mining era. Old Miners’ Days originally started in the 1940’s with the association being incorporated in late 1949. The traditional celebration includes the Cowboy Poetry & Music Gatherings, Chili Cook-off, Miss Clementine Pageant, Loggers Jubilee, Doo Dah Parade and other events.

The Old Miners parade will commence at 12:30 on Sunday, August 2nd, at the intersection of Summit and Big Bear Blvd. and proceed west to Bonanza Trail. Road closures will begin on Big Bear Blvd. at 11:00 a.m. at China Gardens west to Paine.
