The Tour de Big Bear - Saturday, August 6 2011 - The Village in Big Bear Lake.

The Tour de Big Bear started in 2010 as part of the AMGEN Tour of California. Last year’s riders were part of the first Tour de Big Bear event that was put together as an ancillary event as part of the AMGEN Tour of California. Since last year, Big Bear Cycling has been working for over a year to make this year’s event spectacular!

Cycling enthusiasts will escape the heat and ride portions of the famed Stage #6 of the 2010 AMGEN Tour of California route that international cycling announcer Phil Liggit called “one of the best cycling stages we’ve seen in America, ever!” Whether you select the 25, 50 or 70 mile stages, you will be treated to some of the most spectacular cycling scenery in Southern California!

A word of caution . . . . When preparing to select your ride, remember you will be riding at between 7,000 – 8,500 feet of elevation! “The air is much thinner up here” is often heard by our visitors just walking around town! Avoid heatstroke, sunstroke, dehydration and even cardiac arrest by letting your body acclimate to the high elevation and do not push yourself too hard! A “normal ride distance” for you at sea level will be close to the equivalent of double that same distance at our high altitude!! Have fun, but . . . be safe!

Pre registrations for the 2011 Tour de Big Bear are SOLD OUT!! If you have not pre-registered, and wish to ride, late registration will be accepted on FRIDAY EVENING ONLY in Big Bear Lake. Riders will be able to ride and enjoy the FIVE aid stations, but due to overwhelming response may not receive a t-shirt, finishing medal or goodie bag.
