Washington D.C. ___ Congressman Paul Cook (R-Apple Valley) issued the following statement after The tragic crash of the Marine KC-130 aircraft over Mississippi, that killed

16 service members:

“Monday (July 10th) we lost fifteen Marines and one U.S. Navy Sailor in a tragic aircraft accident while flying over Mississippi. This is a stark reminder that our military men and women take risks every day, both overseas and at home, as part of their mission to be ready and able to protect us and our way of life.

My prayers are with all those who gave their lives for our freedom as well as for their families and friends. As a retired Marine who has experienced the loss of fellow service members in the past, my heart goes out to all those who trained, fought and bled next to these bravest of Americans. Their sacrifices will never be forgotten.”

The Marine KC-130 was based at Stewart Air National Guard Base in Newburgh, New York, and officials said some of those killed were from the base.

Six of the Marines and the Navy Corpsman were teamates with an elite Marine Raider battalion at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, the Marine Corps said. The seven and their equipment were headed for pre-deployment training at Yuma, Arizona.

The Marine Raiders are a special operations force that is part of the global fight against terrorism. They carry-out raids against insurgents and terrorists, conduct deep reconnaissance and train foreign militaries.
