Young Boy Saves Himself & Grandmother from HOUSE FIRE

Stop, Drop and Roll Lessons

A five-year-old Phelan boy and his grandmother are alive and well today thanks to lessons learned at a San Bernardino County Fire Station two days earlier. His class was given a station tour and taught lessons on fire safety which included Stop, Drop and Roll, EDITH Drills, (Exit Drills in the Home) and when to call 9-1-1. The young boy awoke coughing from the smoke and noticed the fire burning in his room. He crawled beneath the smoke up the hallway to alert his grandmother to the fire.

San Bernardino County Fire Station #10 Phelan Fire Fighters arrived and were met by the occupants of the home, a five-year-old boy and his grandmother, stating that everyone was out of the home except the family dog, a Chihuahua. After completing a search of the home, the family pet was located hiding in the bathroom and was rescued. The fire was knocked down in approximately 15 minutes, and there were no injuries to firefighters or civilians.

San Bernardino County Fire Department asks that all families regularly practice their EDITH Drill and have a pre-determined meeting point outside of the house. For more information on EDITH, please go towww.sbcfire.org.
