‚ÄčPerfect Score for - -

Assemblyman Jay Obernolte

From HOWARD JARVIS  Taxpayers Association

Sacramento, California – Today, Friday October 30th, the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association released its 2015 legislative report card and Assemblyman Jay Obernolte (R-Hesperia) was among only eight lawmakers who received a perfect score.

“It is an honor to receive a 100% rating from the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association,” stated Assemblyman Obernolte.  “Hard working families and small businesses are overburdened by taxes and regulations imposed on them by government. Instead of constantly asking Californians to pay more, we should find ways to ensure that taxpayer dollars are used more efficiently.”

The Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association’s 2015 report card was based on 16 bills with policy issues ranging from new taxes and regulatory burdens to attacks on the initiative process. Out of the 120 members of the Legislature, 73 members received an “F” grade, 36 earned an “A” grade, and eight members received a perfect score.

Last month Governor Brown signed AB 809 authored by Assemblyman Obernolte, which improves access to important tax information by requiring that the ballot statement for any local tax ordinance include the amount of money to be raised annually and the rate and duration of the tax to be levied. This bill was supported by both The Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association and the California Taxpayers Association.

‚ÄčOBERNOLTE to Big Bear Valley residents:

“We’re continuing to fight against the fire fee, and I am hopeful that the current lawsuit by the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association will be successful in repealing it.  In the meantime I plan to re-introduce my legislation to extend the time to pay or protest the fire fee (which passed the State Assembly this year but was killed in Senate Appropriations).

I am optimistic that we can get this legislation passed by both chambers of the legislature next year and hopefully signed by the governor, which will give residents of unincorporated areas (like the majority of my District) more time to protest this unconstitutional tax.

Assemblyman Jay Obernolte represents the 33rd Assembly District, which includes the San Bernardino County communities of Adelanto, Apple Valley, Baker, Barstow, Big Bear City, Big Bear Lake, Big River, Crestline, Fort Irwin, Hesperia, Johnson Valley, Lake Arrowhead, Lenwood, Lucerne Valley, Needles, Oak Hills, Phelan, Running Springs, Silver Lakes, Trona, Twentynine Palms Base, Twin Peaks and Victorville.
