Road signs at State Route 38 in Barton Flats Hathaway Bridge
SR-38 Hathaway Creek Bridge
in Barton Flats
California Department of Transportation (Caltrans)
began work on State Route 38 (SR-38) at Hathaway Creek Bridge in Barton Flats, March
30, 2015. The $1.6 million project will replace the bridge deck and approach
slabs, as well as upgrade the pavement and bridge rails. The project will also
reconstruct lanes and the outside shoulder slab, improve on-site drainage,
grind existing pavement, and retrofit the bridge abutment with bolsters.
SR-38 Hathaway Creek Bridge work will last approximately 150 working days, with
working hours 8:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M., Monday through Friday. The 2015-Summer
working hours are scheduled from 6 A.M. to P.M., Monday through Friday. According
to Caltrans, for the duration
of construction, there may be up to 30-minute closures to move equipment and
material within the work area. No weekend work is scheduled, unless work falls
behind or emergency work is required. The project will accommodate increased
truck traffic and replace aging pavement due to varying states of repair,
including upgrading for heavy loads, improving traffic safety, improving
operational efficiency, and extending the life of the pavement.
Caltrans predicts that the bridge replacement work is
estimated to be complete in November 2015. The recommended routes off the
mountain by Big Bear Valley travelers are State Route 18 and State Route 330,
to avoid temporary road closures and occasional permanent closures. Caltrans has set warning and progress signage
to inform travelers of traffic delays and that their workers are on the job to
complete as soon as possible.
