PAUL COOK Supports

Increased Transparency

Accountability Performance

It was announced June 18, 2020 in Washington D.C. U.S. that Representative Paul Cook (R-Apple Valley) joined as an original co-sponsor on the Just and Unifying Solutions to Invigorate Communities Everywhere (JUSTICE) Act. This House Bill introduced by Representative Pete Stauber (R-MN) is the companion to legislation introduced in the U.S. Senate by Senator Tim Scott (R-SC). It provides real solutions to increase transparency, accountability, and performance within police departments across the country.

The JUSTICE Act enacts several law enforcement reform initiatives, such as ending the use of chokeholds, increasing the use of body cameras, and implementing new de-escalation training.

Law enforcement agencies will be required to maintain and share disciplinary records of officers to ensure better hiring practices and hold problem officers accountable. The House Bill includes additional funds for community policing to rebuild the trust between law enforcement and the communities they serve while reinforcing our nation’s promise of equal justice under law. Finally, this House Bill would make lynching a federal crime.

Representative Paul Cook said, “The JUSTICE Act offers meaningful reforms which will help prevent violence and ensure better training for law enforcement officers. The vast majority of our officers are out there every day protecting our communities honorably, but we must hold accountable those who dishonor the uniform for their actions.”

“There is no place for racism in America, especially in law enforcement. I’m proud to be an original cosponsor of this critical bill to make all of our communities safer.”
