One Fatality + Multi Minor Injuries

Single Vehicle Over-the-side SR-330, north of
Milepost Marker 35.20
Running Springs, CA ___ October 31,
2020, Saturday at 1:22 P.M., emergency units including CHP and USFS, responded
to a report of a single vehicle accident, going over the side of the mountain. The occupants including two juveniles,
residents of Irvine, CA were traveling in a 2019 Dodge Journey SUV, northbound
on State Route 330.
When south of Forest Road 1-N09 (north
MM 35.20) the driver (34-year-old male) made an unsafe, turning movement to
the right causing the vehicle to leave the roadway and overturned down a
steep descending embankment, approximately 200-300 feet down. By 1:26 P.M., medics
and USFS crews began their descent down the steep hillside, to assess the
patients and prepare them for an extended duration recovery.
One 26-year-old female passenger
suffered major injuries and was transported Sheriff 40-King SBCSD Air Rescue Crew ambulance
to Loma Linda University Medical Center.
The driver and three other passengers:
37-year-old female, 13-year-old male and 7-year-old male, suffered minor to
moderate injuries and were transported by ground ambulance to Loma Linda
University Medical Center. By 1:26
One 30-year-old male passenger
suffered fatal injuries at the scene as a result of the collision.
California Highway Patrol Officer M.
Cadena, ID 16913, from the Arrowhead Area Office, will be handing the
investigation.
