Bernardino County Fire crews, at 7:17 P.M. were dispatched to a reported
vegetation fire in the area of 36th and G Street in the City of San
Battalion #148 arrived on scene within 6 minutes to
find approximately 4 acres of light, flashy fuels on fire at the base of Little Mountain. Due to the dry grass,
slope & low humidity the fire quickly spread up nearby Little Mountain. With the fire rapidly extending upwards towards
homes, a 2nd Alarm was
quickly struck to bring more resources to battle the fire as well as, provide
for structure defense for nearby homes on Ridgeline Drive.
Crews provided structure defense, keeping the fire
away from adjacent homes on Ridgeline Drive and also engaged the fire from the
bottom to work on perimeter control. The forward rate of spread was stopped in
approximately 35 minutes, with a total acreage of approximately 15 acres. Due
to the quick actions by initial crews and residents providing a defensible
space, no homes were damaged or destroyed by the quick moving fire. Damage was
limited to rear fences, trees and ornamental vegetation. Crews continued to work
on mop-up and perimeter control throughout Wednesday evening.
