The Southland Region is in store for a significant heat
wave beginning August 14th Friday
and affecting areas away from the coast. Heat risk will be high to very high
for most of the population, largely driven by cumulative heat stress as a
result of the prolonged nature of the heat, as well as a lack
of significant overnight cooling. Heat wave conditions are expected to persist
for at least 5-6 days across many Inland areas,
and possibly longer in some locations, with temperatures that will range
between 10 and 15 degrees above normal much of the time.
In addition to the heat, an increase in moisture
and instability Friday onward will result in a chance of isolated thunderstorms
each afternoon and evening for mountain areas, and possibly the deserts as
Summertime temps are
expected to reach high temps.
