annual Veterans Day ceremony will be at the Convention Center at Big Bear Lake
with the American Legion Post #594 and Marine Corps Detachment #1038 presiding.
November 11, 1919, Armistice Day was commemorated for the first time, signifying
America’s allegiance to our Veterans. The services throughout the United States
are designated to the eleventh month, the eleventh day, the eleventh hour and the
eleventh minute honoring all Veterans. Therefore, in Big Bear Valley the
special commemoration will be Tuesday November 11th at 11:11 A.M.
Kortney Carmody a Junior
at Big Bear High School will sing ‘The Star Spangled Banner’. Always a favorite of the audience, some of
the first-graders’ letters will be read.
Councilman Bill Jahn will welcome all Veterans, their families and
friends.
Keynote speaker Colonel
Matthew H. Ruedi, United States Army, is
Commander #916 Support
Brigade of Fort Irwin, California. The Colonel was commissioned in May 1993 as
a Second Lieutenant upon completing Officer Candidate School at Fort Benning,
Georgia and branched in the Transportation Corps. LTC. Ruedi earned a Bachelor
of Science degree in Physical Education and Sports Medicine from the State University
of New York, College at Brockport and a Master of Science degree in
Administration from Central Michigan University.
Colonel Ruedi and his
wife Lucinda have six children. He served In Kosovo, Iraq Freedom, and
Afghanistan.
After the celebration
at the Convention Center, Veterans and their families are invited to go to the
Big Bear Lake American Legion Post
#594, at Big Bear Boulevard and Crane Road, for Hamburgers and Polish Sausages
lunch,
The 11:00 A.M. service will be held at the Convention
Center, at 42900 Big Bear Boulevard., NW corner of Big Bear Blvd. and Division
Street.
