Kircher Arrested for Attempted Murder

Friday,
September 11, 2020, Yucaipa Police Officers responded to a ‘shots fired’ report
at 12:46 A.M. to a Yucaipa residence in the 13300 block of Roberts Road. The
reporting party stated they had seen the suspect, later identified as Douglas
Kircher, with a shotgun and heard him fire a shot from outside the home.
They believed he was outside near a shed or an RV.

Bernardino County Sheriff Deputies and a San Bernardino County Sheriff 40King-1 (helicopter)
Crew, responded and staged to an area near the location additional
shots were heard coming from the original location. The Deputies deployed a public
address system, as well as, additional patrol units; in efforts to get the
suspect to surrender peacefully. The suspect ignored their commands and fired
his weapon at the 40King-1 helicopter.
San
Bernardino County Sheriff Specialized Enforcement Division (SED) Detectives also responded to the
location and, while positioning an armored vehicle in front of the residence,
the suspect exited the home armed with a knife. Deputies gave commands
for him to drop the knife, he complied and was taken into custody.
Kircher
was transported and booked into the West Valley Detention Center for Attempted
Murder and Felon in Possession of a Firearm. Deputies located a rifle
inside the residence.
During
the incident, 40King-1 left the location to refuel and while Sheriff Deputies inspected
the airship they found it had been struck by gunfire fired from the
suspect. No crew or deputies were injured during the incident.
Detectives
from the San Bernardino County Sheriff Specialized Investigations Division –
Homicide Detail are conducting the investigation. The investigation is
ongoing, no additional information is being released at this time.
