Summer Recreation Season |
Memorial Holiday Weekend Marks Start of Summer Recreation Season on the San Bernardino National Forest.
SAN BERNARDINO, Calif., as of May 20, 2009— Most of the recreation sites on the San Bernardino National Forest will be open for forest visitors by Memorial Day weekend. The forest is especially pleased that two recently closed sites are reopening to the public including Hanna Flat Campground, which has been reconstructed after suffering damage in recent wildfires, and the Thurman Flat Picnic Area, which is newly renovated. The wildfire damaged portions of the Pacific Crest Trail are also now reopened.
While visiting, exercise safe practices and always remain aware of the current situation outdoors and the potential for wildfire in this area, said Evans.
With summer approaching, forest officials have restricted recreational target shooting to public shooting ranges operated under special use permit.
