Big Bear Lake, CA. The Big Bear Cycling Festival is a week long Celebration of Cycling, starting Saturday, July 26 and running through Sunday, August 3, 2014. The festival will celebrate all disciplines of cycling, including road, mountain and recreational, and all levels of riders, whether they are professional, an endurance athlete, a weekend warrior, ride for fitness or participate as a family.
“This is a one-of-a-kind event in the United States,” commented Craig Smith, president of BBCA. “There is no other festival or event that positions itself as celebrating all types of cyclists and provides nine days of competitive races, long-distance rides and family-oriented opportunities.”
Big Bear Lake has hosted two AMGEN Tour of California stages, and the Tour de Big Bear, is an annual organized and supported road ride providing more than 2000 cyclists the option to ride 25, 50, 70 or 100 mile distances in and around the Big Bear Lake valley.
Tour de Big Bear (tourdebigbear.com) is in its fifth year and this year the Tour is presented by RE/MAX Big Bear.
Big Bear MTB Gran Fondo and Grizzly 100 (bigbeargranfondo.com) is a new mountain bike event that will be introduced this year and will kick off the Big Bear Cycling Festival. The Grizzly 100 course covers 62 miles and over 10,000’ of climbing, which locals refer to as the “Terrible 10,000.” The Big Bear MTB Gran Fondo will offer three distances, including 70K, 30K and a lift-served 20K recreational mountain bike.
In between these two epic events, the Festival will offer free daily rides and activities designed for the entire family. Altitude acclimation road rides of various distances, for Tour de Big Bear participants to get there “altitude adjusted” for the ride on August 2, mountain bike rides, including an evening sunset ride.
