The Old Miners Association of Big Bear Lake, CA presents the annual Big Bear Heritage Parade, in celebration of 65 years of Old Miners Days festivities and in recognition of our community’s fearless emergency personnel. The Saturday, June 15 parade is themed “Big Bear Thanks You,” in gratitude for the support of law enforcement, first responders and military who protected our mountain community during the nationally covered incident of February 2013. The Big Bear community is honored to welcome San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Deputy Alex Collins as parade grand marshal.
Deputy Collins, a member of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department since 2007 and a deputy with the Big Bear Station since 2008, sustained multiple gunshot wounds during the February 12 shootout. Father to a newborn son with wife Lila, Collins had been on family leave at the time of the days-long incident, yet returned to duty to assist his fellow officers. After multiple surgeries at Loma Linda University Medical Center, his commander Captain Tom Bradford states, “Alex is on the road to recovery and we are looking forward to having him back at the Big Bear Station when he is ready.
