Assemblyman Jay Obernolte (R-33rd
Assembly District) has honored Outstanding Small Business of the Month for
September, 2018 to Butcher’s Block of Lucerne Valley.
Robert H. Butcher, Jr. founded Butcher's Block
in 1980. The owner, Bob Butcher, was one of only two employees when the company
started out as a small lumber yard. In 1988, Butcher’s Block bought out an
existing lumber company (Homestead Supplies) and expanded to become a hardware store
that carries a full-line of paint, plumbing, and electrical supplies and
employs over 30 people.
In 2005, Bob and his wife Thela decided to open
another location in Lucerne Valley after having the opportunity to purchase Valley
Hardware & Building Supply. Since then, they have run both Butcher’s Block
locations with the same attention to customer service and satisfaction.
Butcher’s Block is also dedicated to helping
their local community. For instance they sponsor Future Farmers of America,
Lucerne Valley Equestrian Club, The Lucerne Valley Schools, and Lucerne Valley
BMX as well as many others.
“Bob’s success with his company is an inspiration for any
future entrepreneur. His hard work and dedication have led to his company
growing from a small lumber yard with a two-person workforce into a hardware
store operating in two locations. That is quite an accomplishment and something
to be very proud of,” Assemblyman Obernolte said. “It’s an honor to recognize
Butcher’s Block both for being a successful small business and for its many
years of service to our community.”
Bob Butcher passed away in December of 2007. His wife, Theela Butcher, is still
the president of Butcher’s Block and Bob’s son and grandson help run the
company as well.
