BVES is donating the 2,000th Turkey to Help Mountain Families in Need during Holidays BVES and local Elks Lodge continue their partnership to help struggling families enjoy a home-cooked meal during the holiday season.

Continuing its tradition of holiday generosity, Bear Valley Electric Service (BVES) donated 152 turkeys to Elks Lodge No. 1787, which used approximately half the birds to prepare Thanksgiving meals for distribution to local families in need. The remaining turkeys will be used to provide Christmas meal packages on Saturday, Dec. 20th and Sunday, Dec. 21st.

“We are so thankful for the generous donation BVES makes each year to ensure that families in need have a holiday meal on their table,” said Elks Lodge representative Milt Clemens.

Saturday November 22nd, volunteers gathered at the Elks Lodge to assemble this year’s Thanksgiving dinner packages after BVES delivered the turkeys. Meal packages included: turkey stuffing, gravy, cranberry sauce, corn, rolls, mashed potatoes and string beans. Candy treats were also given out to the children.

For more than 10 years, BVES has partnered with Elks Lodge 1787 to provide holiday dinners to families in need in the Big Bear Valley community. BVES has donated a total of approximately 2,000 turkeys during that time period.

“We feel every family should have the opportunity to be with their loved ones and enjoy a nice, hot meal during the holidays,” BVES Director Harry Scarborough said. “We are so happy to continue this venture with the Elks Lodge to provide a good meal to families who are struggling during this time of year.”
