Over the Side
SR 38 on Onyx
Running Springs, CA. ____ Monday January 25th afternoon, Kevin Moran, was
driving his maroon 2002, Jeep Liberty, travelling eastbound on State Route 38
and Onyx Summit. Moran, a resident of Big Bear City, lost control of his
vehicle as he negotiated a right curve, therefore the Jeep veered off the
roadway. The vehicle turned over several times before coming to rest on its
wheels down the hillside.
Knowing he was injured, forty-six year old Moran managed to use
his cell-phone to report the traffic collision and requested medical
assistance. California Highway Patrol Officer
J. Reneau, ID 16179 responded to the scene of the traffic collision on SR-38,
east of Lake Williams Drive on Onyx Summit.
It was discovered that Jeep had come to rest approximately 250 feet down
the hillside.
CHP Officer Reneau climbed down to the location of Moran and his
vehicle, and requested additional emergency services personnel to respond.
Big
Bear Fire Personnel (BBFD) responded to the scene and extricated Moran from the
vehicle. BBFD Paramedics then
carried Moran up-hill and transported him to the Mercy Air Ambulance. The medic
helicopter transported Moran to the Arrowhead Regional Medical Center to be
treated for his injuries.
Moran suffered a broken right leg,
lacerations to right arm and left fingers and complained of pain to his left
arm as a result of the traffic collision.
California Highway
Patrol Officer Ben Baker, ID 17407, is conducting the
investigation. Any person who witnessed
this incident is encouraged to call the Arrowhead Area Office (Running Springs)
