Injured Hiker
Rescued
The Search and Rescue of the Big Bear Sheriff’s Station,
responded to a call of a lost hiker in a forested area near Onyx Summit, just before
11:00 A.M., Friday morning.
It was reported that the 27-year-old male subject, who had
been hiking for over 24 hours, was blind in one eye and had a broken foot. He
did not have any food or water with him and had very low battery life left on
his cell phone. The subject stated he could see the Lake Fire and helicopters
flying overhead, and that he was engulfed in heavy smoke.
With the assistance of Sheriff’s Aviation, deputies from the
Big Bear and Yucaipa Sheriff’s Stations were able to locate the subject near
Pipes Canyon using the latitude and longitude coordinates from his 9-1-1 call.
The subject has been transported back to the Incident Command Post at Big Bear
High School, where paramedics were standing by to render medical aid.
