The Big Bear Pirate Ship is Now Fully Restored and Sailing again just in time for Holloway’s Marina’s 100 Year Anniversary
One of Big Bear Lake’s biggest tourist attractions, the Big Bear Pirate Ship is
now completely restored. The Ship also known as the Time Bandit sank on February 28, 2014 during a winter storm. The recovered pirate ship is now ready to resume its regular narrated tours for the summer.
“She is better than ever, she is just like new again” explained Loren Hafen the owner and operator of Big Bear Pirate Ship. “We restored the entire ship bow to stern, from the waterline to the top deck.”
In addition to the restored hull, the pirate ship has two new outboard motors, a renewed cabin and a reinforced walking plank for scallywags who insult or cross the pirates in any way.
The refurbished pirate ship is just in time to kick off Holloway’s Marina’s 100 year anniversary where it is docked. On Thursday, June 26 the Big Bear Pirate Ship, also known as The Time Bandit, will be on display from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Hafen will be on hand to describe the ship’s restorations and take any questions related to the Big Bear Pirate Ship or Holloway’s Marina’s 100 year anniversary. At 10:30 a.m. the Big Bear Pirate Ship will set sail for an abbreviated tour that is free to the first 20 people who arrive at Holloway’s Marina on June 26. The first 20 people will be given a complimentary boarding pass at arrival. Starting at 12 noon the Big Bear Pirate Ship will resume its regularly scheduled tours at 12 noon, 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
“It just so happens that the rebirth of our pirate ship coincides with Holloway’s Marina’s 100 year anniversary. So in her honor we’re having a celebration to welcome her back with flying colors,” added Hafen.
Holloway’s Marina’s 100 year anniversary celebration includes several costumed pirates in full regalia, a live swashbuckler show, christening of the ship with a bottle of rum, a plank-walking exhibition and talk-like-a-pirate contest with prizes for the winners. Also, Holloway’s Marina will reveal its ongoing promotions for the summer such as a classic wooden row boat rental for 1914 prices at just $1 (or 100 pennies) per day, and special offers that give patrons an opportunity to purchase gas for their boat’s gas tanks for 1914 gas prices. The festivities are Thursday, June 26 from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Holloway’s Marina located at 398 Edgemoor Road in Big Bear Lake. The first 20 patrons to arrive at the Big Bear Pirate Ship dock before 10:30 a.m. on June 26 will be given complimentary passes for an abbreviated tour.
“One of the promotions for our 100 year anniversary is we invite all past Holloway’s customers to bring us a treasured memory or item from Holloway’s Marina in the last 100 years, whether it’s a photo, souvenir or what have you, and we’ll give them a special treasured gift in return,” said Hafen
