Forest Trails and Picnic Area near Forest Falls Closed Sunday and Monday

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif., September 5, 2014 – Anticipated heavy rainfall and potential flash floods have prompted Forest officials to close popular recreation areas near the Forest Falls community Sunday and Monday.

The National Weather Service has forecast widespread showers and thunderstorms starting late Saturday night through Monday night over Southern California.  The storms could pose a significant risk for mountain communities in flashflood prone areas, bringing up to two inches of rain per hour.  The storms are a result of Tropical Storm Norbert which is predicted to move northwest off the coast of Baja California through this weekend.

The Forest Service is closing the following locations/trails near Forest Falls to all public use.  The temporary closure will be in effect from Midnight Saturday September 6, 2014 through Midnight Monday September 8, 2014:

  • Falls Day Use Area

  • Momyer Trail 1E06

  • Vivian Creek Trail 1E08

  • Big Falls Trail 1E13

Always be prepared for a sudden change in conditions. When flash flooding is imminent, move immediately to higher ground. Never attempt to cross flowing water either on foot or in a vehicle.
