The Big Bear Lake Village was jumping over the Memorial Weekend. The two events that attracted so many people were the 2014 Starlight Festival and the Big Bear Lake Half Marathon.

The Marathon, held on Sunday, May 25 was an Open Air Big Bear event and started and finished in The Village of Big Bear Lake with Live Music and Local Vendors at the Lifestyle Expo.

The Big Bear Lake Half Marathon and Memorial 5k Fun Run is an official proud supporter of the Wounded Warrior Project! A portion of each race entry fee will be donated to the Wounded Warrior Project.

The Starlight Festival was held at the Northwoods Resort in the Village on Saturday May 24 and Sunday 25.  It was a free event open to the public and was an educational and entertaining event geared towards children, young adults, and families. Held annually, this unique celebration of science and astronomy among an atmosphere of music and art has a mission to proliferate an awareness of and a better understanding of science and astronomy through interactive outreach and hands on experiences.

The Big Bear Solar Observatory Team had an interpretive center at the festival, and exclusive tours of the observatory. Visitors had a chance to meet scientists from JPL/NASA, Astronauts, and renowned organizations and individuals in educational public outreach who were there for lectures and demonstrations.

The Starlight Festival is hosted by the AstronomyOutreach networka 501(c)3 non-profit educational organization.
