Xeriscape 14th Anniversary
Saturday July 16th

The
2016
Xeriscape Garden Tour will begin with the FREE Self-guided Tour at 9:00
A.M. Saturday July 16th. Garden Tourists can begin anytime between 9:00
A.M. and 12:00 Noon by picking up a Tour Book at Eminger’s Mountain Nursery in
Big Bear Lake, located at 41223 Big Bear Boulevard. Garden
Tourists will have until 4:00 P.M. to complete the Self-guided Driving Tour
of the locations throughout Big Bear Valley.
The
Xeriscape
Garden Tour, sponsored by the
Sierra Club Big Bear Group, is the perfect
opportunity to get landscaping ideas, discover drought tolerant plants and
learn how to save money on the water bill, all while creating a beautiful
garden. The Garden Tour’s theme for 2016 focuses on education and identifying
drought-tolerant and native plants with a What’s That
Plant? Guide. The plant lists are
highlighted on the Xeriscape Garden Tour Website: http://bigbeargardentour.weebly.com.
For
details about the Xeriscape Garden Tour Facebook Photo Contest will
be included in the Tour Booklet as well as the explanation the categories:
Plant/Flower Close-ups, People & Gardens, and Overall Garden.
The
2016
Xeriscape Garden Tour will once again highlight the DWP’s Xeriscape
Demonstration Garden on Fox Farm Road, in front of the Community Garden,
with native plant expert Orchid Black on hand to answer questions. There 6 homeowner
gardens, landscaped by both professionals and homeowners, include a featured Firewise
home where Big Bear Fire Department personnel. The Fire Personnel will tell how
to create defensible space and chose the right plants to create a Firewise landscape.
So no matter your budget, size of your yard or level of expertise, you’ll find
solutions for creating low-maintenance, drought tolerant, Firewise gardens here
in Big Bear Valley.
