Fine Dining since 1947

The historic Captains Anchorage Restaurant in Big Bear Lake has been a tradition since 1947. The restaurant is famous for its steak and seafood choices and it now has an Under $20 Menu available –this has replaced their Early Bird Specials.

Step back in time to the "Big Bear of Yesteryear" while enjoying great food and a relaxing ambiance.  Originally known as the Sportsman's Tavern, the restaurant has witnessed years of history, entertained silver screen celebrities, and is the home of a groovy “Ghost” by the name of George. Be aware that George may be your unexpected dinner guest, as he evidentially feels that Captains Anchorage is his home, too. Listen for the tales from the staff and dinner guests about George's appearances since the days when he was the Sportsman's accountant.

The many celebrity pictures on the walls create an unpretentious atmosphere where locals and tourists alike can rub elbows and be whomever they want. Comfortable seating, two stone fireplaces and a full bar area, makes this restaurant a favorite destination for singles, families or large groups.

The restaurant, once owned by cowboy actor Andy Devine, famed for his role as Jingles in the Wild Bill Hickok TV series, is a popular hang-out for many local residents. Downstairs is the legendary Andy Devine Room with the classic full-bar serving delicious mixed drinks, beer, wine and liqueurs. Some regulars like to select from the Bar Sandwich Menu, a popular choice being the Prime Rib Sandwich. Perhaps you'll start the evening out with a Steamed Artichoke or another of the awesome appetizers. The Salad Bar has sizzling soups and fresh veggies where you can make up your own salad combo.

Through the years the Captains Anchorage has become a favorite restaurant because of superb dinner choices such as The Anchor, a charbroiled Filet Mignon stuffed with Dungeness Crab, topped with artichoke hearts and fresh tomato, smothered in béarnaise sauce. Steak lovers may select other succulent steak dinners that include the Top Sirloin, Teriyaki Top Sirloin, and New York steak. The Market Place offers Alaskan King Crab Legs, Lobster, Wild Salmon and Broiled Swordfish. There is a variety of other excellent dinners with seafood and chicken.
For your pleasure after a wonderful dinner, delight yourself with a Sinfully Rich Chocolate Cake or The Ship Wreck, which is a rich brownie with creamy vanilla ice cream, topped with chocolate sauce, caramel sauce and whipped cream.

Since 1947 this landmark restaurant, surrounded by a forested parkway has continued to provide great service and fine food. For your special occasions and large party reservations, call the friendly staff; they make it their business to see that you have a memorable dining experience that will entice you to return.
Captains Anchorage is a dinner house that welcomes its customers daily from 4:30pm until 9:00pm during the week, and 10:00pm on Saturdays and Sundays.
