In Our TOWN
presents the classic OUR TOWN known to many, may be a natural-fit for our mountain community
of many performers. When as young acting high school students, we
got acquainted with Wilder’s play; and felt it spoke to everyone about ‘Their
Town’, wherever in the USA it was. And
now, Beth Wheat (I still refer to as my friend, Beth Gardner) brings The Big
Bear Theatre Project, her theatre troupe to the Performing Arts of Big Bear
Lake. The combination of the familiar screenplay and the very talented actors
who are all from ‘our town, is truly an epic treat for us all.
Some familiar
actor-faces plus some new faces that will quickly become familiar, too are:
Brian Adams, Steve
Cassling, Matt Gardner, Steve Gaghagen, Diana Hintergarot, Teresa Hoffman, and Tiffany
Toner. And there’s more great supporting actors, too.
For me, it’s exciting
to see several young adults who I’ve known since they were youngsters. I remember Matt and his brother Jack, from
way back. It’ll be great to see these
actors bring OUR TOWN to our home-town.
Opening Friday July 6th
with six performances scheduled, it will be no surprise to see a packed-house
each of the evening performances, with one Sunday matinee. Get your tickets as
soon as possible.
Our Town a play by Thornton Wilder, the setting in 1938, follows
the everyday lives of citizens of a fictional American small town, named
Grover's Corner. This timeless drama is a simple story of a love affair that
asks questions about the meaning of love, life, and death.
OUR TOWN won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1938, the Drama Desk Award for
Outstanding Revival in 1989, and the Tony Award for Best Revival in 1989. What
do you think; its likely to win the Hearts of Big Bear Valley Award?
