SATURDAY Sept 1st

Domestic Violence Hurts Us All
All too often people classify domestic violence as a “family” problem. One that should be handled behind closed doors and kept hidden from view. It is becoming more apparent that Domestic Violence is NOT a personal problem. It is something that our society should care about. Every victim of Domestic Violence effects an average of 27 other people – family, friends, co-workers, and people they encounter in daily life who aren’t even aware of what might be happening to a survivor.
Domestic Violence
Effects EVERYONE
Nearly 5.3 million intimate partner victimizations occur
among U.S. women ages 18 and older each year.
1 in 3, to 1 in 4 women in the U.S. have or will experience(d) an act of
D.V. in their lifetime.
Domestic Violence results in nearly 2 million
injuries and nearly 1,300 deaths EVERY YEAR.
More than 555,000 injuries required medical attention,
145,000 were serious enough to warrant hospitalization.
Domestic Violence also results in 18.5 million
mental health care visits each year.
Remember! If victims of
domestic violence affect an average of 27 people,
that means that at least 143
MILLION people are affected every year!
