Veterans Day originally named ‘Armistice Day’, November 11, 1919, was the first anniversary of the end of World War I. In 1926 U.S. Congress passed a resolution for an annual day of observance, thus November 11th became an American holiday, beginning in 1938. Unlike Memorial Day, Veterans Day pays tribute to all American Veterans—living or dead—but especially gives thanks to living Veterans who served their country honorably during all wars as well as in peacetime.
