MAUREEN Auer is a candidate for Council-Woman of the City Council of Big Bear Lake, District #1.   

Councilman Bill Jahn announced his retirement from City Council, a few months ago; leaving his position for District #5 available for another elected person. 

Maureen and husband, Hans have lived, worked, and raised their family in the Big Bear Valley for the last 18 years, with their daughter, Sarah and son, Johann. 

Auer have been involved in numerous academic, community, and athletic groups.  She comments, “Being involved with all of these groups has allowed her to interact with many people, having positive working experiences due to my ability to listen and respond fairly, always keeping the “Good of the Community” in mind.” 

A successful real estate salesperson, Auer enjoys assisting her clients in achieving their dream of owning real estate in beautiful Big Bear Valley. When on the Board of Directors for the Big Bear Association of Realtors, served on many Committees, and was named Realtor of the Year in 2015, which is again a testament to Auer’s ability to work well with peers to achieve successful outcomes for all involved. Currently, she is the Chairperson of the Scholarship Committee; that raises money and awards scholarships to local schoolchildren. 

Maureen Auer is a Planning Commissioner for the City of Big Bear Lake. She appreciates having the opportunity to give input on projects for responsible growth of the community, adhering to the current codes and ordinances that are in place.

Since July 2017, Auer has been a Big Bear Chamber Board Member of the of Commerce. She has assisted businesses by providing resources and training and recently she was helpful assisting local businesses in obtaining COVID relief funds.  Auer helped develop the Mountain Task Force with Cal-Trans to coordinate future road work/closures during the holiday and event schedules.


Auer cherishes the opportunities that living in the mountain atmosphere provides, such as: hiking, backpacking, boating, kayaking, snowshoeing, mountain biking, off-roading, and camping with her active family. She feels now that her children are grown, she has more time to serve her community. Maureen Auer is passionate and genuinely cares about this Community and will participate by listening and making decisions that not only effect the community, but her family, as well.   

Auer indicates several important issues that need to be addressed with the new City Council such as: solutions for the “3-Ts” – Trash, Trespassing & Traffic,  Tourism Management, enhancing Code Enforcement, Village of Big Bear Lake streets, attracting and supporting new businesses, improving the Traffic Management Plan, work with Mountain Transit to enhance public transportation and more to be explored in 2021. 

Auer wants to increase the relationship with the County for the benefit of the whole Big Bear Valley and become more uniform and consistent throughout the Big Bear Valley.

Maureen Auer comments about the City of Big Bear Lake, “I believe keeping our residents safe during the COVID-19 crisis and supporting our businesses are the City’s #1 priorities right now.  The City needs to continue to be financially conservative.  I want to work with and collaborate with our most important City services including law enforcement, paramedics/ambulance, fire protection, snow plowing, street maintenance and transit, to keep our residents healthy and safe.”
