Gabe Velasquez

A great
friend to many in Big Bear Valley and Apple Valley, California, Gabe Velasquez
passed away with family members by his bedside, April 27, 2021. Gabe (Gabriel)
Velasquez was born November 19, 1938.
Gabe
Velasquez enlisted in the U.S. Army and served with the military police, as
well as, he was deployed to Germany and discharged in 1965.
As a proud
Veteran, Gabe continued his service to the community through various
organizations. Gabe was employed by the Los Angeles Sheriff Department, when he
and Vicki met. The couple’s marriage was a joining of their children and
grandchildren.

When the
family relocated from Diamond Bar, CA to Big Bear Lake they soon joined other new
friends at the American Legion #584, Big Bear Lake ELKS, and other service
groups. Gabe Velasquez loved representing Veterans and many times presenting
the American Flag in the Color Guard.
The
Velasquez’ were dedicated participants in the Big Bear Fire CERT (Community
Emergency Rescue Team). Also, Gabe
served as CERT sub-commander and with the Mountain Mutual Aid, Amateur Radio
and various related rescue groups.
For health
reasons Gabe and wife of 33 years, Vicki moved to Apple Valley from Big Bear
Lake, previous to her death in 2015. Gabe enjoyed golf and socializing with
friends.
Gabe
Velasquez will be missed dearly by many, many family members and friends.
Friends are
welcome to join the family for a memorial service at the Riverside National
Cemetery,
Friday June 11, 2021 at 2:00 P.M., located at: 22495 Van Buren Blvd,
Riverside.
