Everyone is invited to go on the 9:00 A.M. Cougar Crest Trail Hike. The Festival at 11:00 A.M. includes live music, food, vendors, games and fun for the entire family.

In honor of cancer survivors there will be a lunch donated by Sonora Cantina.  Event Lead, Francine Derstine shares; This year we are honoring our friend and Cancer Survivor Speaker & Top Fundraiser 2018 ... Michael Cusimano!  Michael shared his story and his music with us at our event last year. He wanted to help others even when he was battling his own cancer.  Our talented and compassionate friend was an inspiration to all that had the honor of knowing Michael Cusimano.

“The American Cancer Society provides many types of events, just like this, for those who want to participate and help raise money for our free services and programs,” said Community Development Manager, Liz McGiffin. “Money raised at our events give hope to those who are battling and their families who support them.  Having cancer on the mountain, means that you have to travel for treatment.  The American Cancer Society provides rides and there are hotel partners for those that have to travel a distance for continued treatment.  We want to make sure the mountain communities realize there, we are here for them.”

This year, an estimated 1.3 million people in the U.S. will participate in more than 2,000 events to help the American Cancer Society attack cancer in dozens of ways, each of them critical to achieving a world without cancer – from developing breakthrough therapies to building supportive communities, from providing empowering resources to deploying activists to raise awareness. Funds raised support the American Cancer Society 24/7 cancer help line and free rides to chemo. By joining the Climb to Conquer Cancer event, you can help attack cancer from every angle.

In addition to the support of the community, Climb to Conquer Cancer is also supported by many local businesses and organizations. Some of this year’s sponsors include: the Discovery Center, Alaska USA Bank, Sonora Cantina.
