Unveiled on State Route 247

 





San Bernardino, California ____ The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) joined family, friends, local leaders, and other countless individuals to honor the life of United States Army Sergeant Brian Walker with the unveiling of two highway memorial signs bearing his name, Wednesday November 29, 2017. 

The signs will be placed from the intersection of State Route 247 and Allen Way to Camp Rock Road.  The memorial signs will serve as permanent reminders of Sergeant Walker’s bravery and sacrifice in preserving our nation’s freedoms.

During the unveiling ceremony, Caltrans District 8 Director John Bulinski stated “Sergeant Brian Walker made the ultimate sacrifice to preserve our freedoms and values that we as Americans hold dear. Today serves as a small token in showing our appreciation for Sergeant Walker’s bravery and selflessness in service to our country.” 


Assemblyman Jay Obernolte of the 33rd District, commented, “I hope that every time someone drives by these signs and reads these words that they reflect, even just for a moment, on the sacrifices that people like Sergeant Brian Walker have made for our freedom.” 



United States Army Sergeant Brian L. Walker joined the U.S. Army in August 2007 and was assigned to Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Alaska.

Sgt. Brian L. Walker 25, of Lucerne Valley, California; was assigned to 425th Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 4th Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), 25th Infantry Division.

May 13, 2012, while serving during ‘Operation Enduring Freedom’ in Bowri Tana, Afghanistan, Sgt. Walker tragically died of his injuries caused by an improvised explosive device. Also killed was Army Pfc. Richard L. McNulty Illinois when the two military policemen’s vehicle that Sgt. Walker was commanding, hit a roadside bomb.  Three other U.S. Army soldiers were wounded when their vehicle hit a bomb in Khost Province, Afghanistan.

The thoughts and prayers of everyone at Caltrans are with the family and friends of Sergeant Brian Walker.
