Eight
people — including two guests at the ski resort and six employees — were
partially buried in the avalanche but were able to free themselves, resort
officials said.

March 3, 2018 ___ At
approximately 10:30 A.M. authorities at the Mammoth Ski Resort, in Mammoth
Lakes, California, were alerted of an avalanche incident that had occurred on
the eastern area, the High
Five Express [Chair 5].
Although three skiers escaped injury, immediate Ski Patrol and Avalanche Search
And Rescue Teams responded to reports of multiple partial burials.
Reported by: Mammoth Mountain will be closed the rest of the day.
The ski resort said no one was
reported missing.
“The first searches with
transceivers, avalanche dogs and a RECCO search have not produced any results,”
Mammoth said on Twitter. “The third stage of the avalanche protocol involving a
manual probe search is underway.”
The Mammoth Mountain Ski Patrol
was doing avalanche hazard mitigation work when there was an avalanche on the
upper part of the mountain towards the High Five Express area.
