Rick Herrick, candidate for California’s 33rd Assembly District and Mayor of Big Bear Lake, shares concerns about the dangerous fires throughout the state:

Rick Herrick applauded Gavin Newsom’s recent signature of a bill (AB2147), that allows California’s inmate firefighters to gain employment in fire departments after release: “Inmate firefighters have been at the front lines of some of our worst and most dangerous fires. This bill provides a pathway to employment for those who fairly served their time and gave back to our communities.”

“The tragic wildfires burning throughout our state, and the El Dorado fire burning right here in the 33rd Assembly District, are a harsh reminder that California legislators need to make fire and forest control a focus of every legislative session.

As your next Assemblyman, I will support renewed efforts to thin out overcrowded forests and reduce the undergrowth that feeds the catastrophic and unmanageable fires we have been experiencing far too often. I will also support increased funding for local and state fire departments.”

Rick Herrick also applauded Gavin Newsom’s recent signature of a bill (AB2147), that allows California’s inmate firefighters to gain employment in fire departments after release: “Inmate firefighters have been at the front lines of some of our worst and most dangerous fires. This bill provides a pathway to employment for those who fairly served their time and gave back to our communities.”
