Our friend, Jeff Newsome passed away Saturday, December 14th,
with his wife, Kathleen and daughters Jacklyn and Jeanne at his side. Son Nick
Newsome precedes his father in death.
The Newsome’s are a special family dear to the
hearts of Big Bear Valley. All three of the Newsome children attended Bear
Valley schools and graduated from Big Bear High School. Kathleen was a team
member of San Bernardino County Search & Rescue (Big Bear Sheriff
Department), was employed at Bear Valley Community Hospital. Kathleen also was
cast in several CATS performances.
Jeff Newsome was a Community Service District Board
of Director from 2001 until 2014.
California Highway Patrol Sergeant
Jeffrey Newsome #11802 began his career as an Officer assigned to the CHP
Barstow Area on January 8, 1987. In 1991, Newsome transferred to Arrowhead Area
#865 Running Springs headquarters. August 31, 1997, Officer Newsome promoted to
sergeant located at the CHP Morongo Basin Area, eventually transferring to
Arrowhead Area again in 2000. Sergeant Newsome was with the California Highway
Patrol for 25 years, before retiring from the CHP in July of 2011.
