Thursday,
April 15, 2021, at approximately 1:53 P.M., Big Bear Sheriff Deputies and Big
Bear Fire Paramedics responded to a call of an injury hit and run traffic
collision on Knickerbocker Road near Maryland Road.
Upon
arrival, Paramedics located the victim lying on Knickerbocker Road, suffering
from major injuries as a result of being hit by a vehicle. Fire personnel
provided treatment and transported the victim to Arrowhead Regional Medical
Center via medi-vac helicopter.
During investigation, Sheriff Deputies determined
Burich was driving a 2010 Nissan Titan south on Knickerbocker Road. At the same
time, the victim was walking south on Knickerbocker Road when he was struck by
Burich’s vehicle. After the collision, Burich fled the scene and returned to
his residence. Burich was located shortly after the collision and identified
him as the driver of the vehicle. determined he was under the influence of a
controlled substance. Burich was arrested for Felony D.U.I. and Hit and
Run and booked at the West Valley Detention Center.
Sheriff’s Major Accident Investigation Team
(M.A.I.T.) responded to the scene and investigated the traffic collision. At
10:55 P.M. the MAIT investigators were advised that the victim passed away at
the hospital.
