Assembly, Sacramento, California
Assemblyman Jay Obernolte 33rd District (R-Hesperia) announced Thursday, January 17,
2019, that
Gabriel Petek has been selected as the new Legislative Analyst. Assemblyman
Obernolte served with Assemblyman Ting, Senator Nielson, and Senator Mitchell
on the Subcommittee for the Joint Legislative Budget Committee (JLBC), which
was charged to select the new Legislative Analyst.
Gabriel
Petek currently serves as a Managing Director for S&P Global Ratings and as
the San Francisco Office Head, as well as the Primary Credit Analyst for California.
He will assume his new position on February 4, 2019. Petek will be only the
sixth person to hold the position since the office was established in 1941. He
succeeds Mac Taylor, the former Legislative Analyst, who served from 2008
through the end of 2018.
“It
was a privilege to serve on the JLBC Subcommittee to select our new Legislative
Analyst,” said Assemblyman Obernolte. “Although we had many strong candidates,
I was especially impressed with Gabriel’s extensive experience and independent
nature. Given the importance of the research that the Legislative Analyst
Office does for the Legislature, it is critical to have someone with a strong
economic background directing the office. I’m confident that Gabriel will be an
extremely valuable leader in this role.”
Gabriel
Petek was selected using a bipartisan, bicameral, nationwide search conducted
by the Subcommittee on the Selection of the Legislative Analyst, which came to
a close after official action was taken by the full Joint Legislative Budget
Committee yesterday. The JLBC’s selection of Petek was approved on a unanimous
14-0 vote.
