Hospital Chief Executive
RESIGNS
__E
T Russell ____ Raymond Hino, Chief Executive Officer of the Bear Valley
Community Healthcare District submitted a letter of resignation to the Hospital
Board of Directors, President Sara Russ, Wednesday September 3rd. Hino began as interim Chief Executive Officer
of Bear Valley Community Healthcare District
in
January of 2013 and three months later began the permanent position.
“Ray
Hino was the right person for the CEO position with Bear Valley Hospital when
he agreed to come on board in 2013. He was the leader the District needed
during a critical time. Not only did Ray successfully eliminate a $3 million
deficit in two years, he also led the District to achieve the critical access
hospital designation, establish our new swing bed program, and helped pass the
recent parcel tax election in June; that will provide $11 million in funding to
the District for the next ten years,” commented Board President Russ.
Hino
states, “I want the entire Board to know that I am very appreciative to each of
you for giving me the opportunity to lead this organization for the past 21
months.”
When
notified of Hino’s decision, Bear Valley Community Healthcare District
Foundation Helen Walsh commented, “Ray Hino has supported the Foundation since
the first day he arrived. He attends the meetings and events and has kept the
membership up to date on projects, the CEO was working on and most importantly
guided us to becoming the state-of-our-hospital,
that it is today.
Ray
Hino understands what it takes to run our small Hospital and he understood what
the citizens of Big Bear Valley expect from our small, rural Hospital. He has
provided us with a ‘sense of stability’ and he has set us on the right track
for success. We will always be grateful.”
City of Big Bear Lake Mayor Pro-tem David Caretto comments, “Ray
Hino has made great progress at the hospital, with the overwhelming approval of
the tax measure, the Critical Access designation and working toward a beneficial
affiliation with another larger hospital.”
The
effective date of Hino’s resignation as Chief Executive Officer, is October 17,
2014. Hino has accepted a new C.E.O. position in Northern California. “This is
a rare opportunity to open a new hospital from the ground up within driving
distance of my home in Mendocino where my wife has lived to take care of an
aging parent,” said Hino. He added, “It was a difficult decision to leave Bear
Valley Community Hospital because I love this hospital, the community, and the
many friends here. Now, it is important for me to live closer to home. This new
job provides me that chance.”
BVCHD
Board has called a Special Board meeting with Hino scheduled for Friday September
5th evening. Hino and the Board of Directors will discuss his plans
for completion of several key initiatives that are currently underway, such as
hospital affiliation and union contract negotiations. The Directors will also
begin to develop an immediate plan for recruiting a CEO replacement to ensure
continuity of leadership prior to his departure in October. Friday, a closed session
will begin at 5:15 P.M. followed by an open session that will begin at
approximately 7:15 P.M. that is open to the public.
