A Woman of Distinction
And
the Woman of Distinction Award goes to Yomar Cleary of Big Bear
Lake, California!
She is being recognized among several other women
in the San Bernardino County for the prestigious award of Woman of Distinction at a dinner Friday June 20th at the San Bernardino Orange Show
facility. Yomar has dedicated her time
and efforts to the Big Bear Valley Community specifically the disaster
preparedness endeavors through the Community Organizations Active in Disaster
or COAD. Also, the recognition to
signifies her commitment to volunteerism and memberships in various community
organizations.
Yomar considers herself a “professional volunteer” since she doesn’t
get paid on any of the organizations if which she belongs. She has
community organizing skills and works cooperatively with diverse community
groups as a volunteer. Her latest project is to mitigate the entire Big Bear
Valley community in preparation for any type of disaster by making
presentations, having an information booth at all community events, sending
informational emails and using the news media to raise awareness on how to
prepare for disasters.
Yomar has the knowledge and ability to articulate in recruiting
volunteers and organizations to participate in the community recovery of such a
disaster event. Yomar Cleary has trained, given her time and experience to
many community service groups such as: Big Bear Valley Mountain Mutual Aid
(First Responders), Big Bear Valley Community Organizations Active in Disaster
(COAD), San Bernardino County Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD),
S.B. County Fire Emergency Communications Services (ECS), Bear Valley Amateur
Radio Club, Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), Orange County Sheriff
Department, San Bernardino Sheriff Dept.
Over the years, Yomar has served in community services capacities
as:
Board Secretary for 11 years of Big Bear Valley Mountain Mutual
Aid
Chairman of Big Bear Valley Community Organizations Active in
Disaster (COAD), Board Member of San Bernardino County Voluntary Organization
Active in Disaster (VOAD), Member of San
Bernardino County Fire Emergency Communication Services (ECS), Ham Radio
Operator KI6OHI - Bear Valley Amateur Radio Club, Secretary for 4 years and member
for 8 years of Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), President and Vice
President for 19 years of Big Bear Computer Club, Reserve Deputy Sheriff for 10
yrs and Public Information Officer with the San Bernardino Sheriff Big Bear
Station for 4 years and Orange County Reserve Deputy Sheriff for 10 years.
Yomar Cleary has earned the Paul
Harris Fellow Award from the Rotary
Club of Big Bear Lake, Sheriff of the Year Award Reserve Deputy City of Dana
Point Resolution and City of San Juan Capistrano Resolution.
Yomar’s education and degrees that she’s
earned are: High School at Our Lady Queen of Angels in Los Angeles, Saddleback
College - Administration of Justice degree, Completed FEMA Incident Command
System classes- ICS: 100, 200, 700, 800b, 701a, 702, 703,704,706,708,906 and 907. Also,
she completed State of California I-300 Intermediate, HazMat, CPR/First Aid and
Active Shooter training.
After
a brief courtship, Bob Cleary and Yomar married fifty-four years ago. The
Cleary’s have three daughters who
live in Apple Valley, City of Orange and Modesto, California; also they are
grandparents to four grandsons and one granddaughter. Like so many
residents, the Cleary’s had a cabin in Sugarloaf for 18 years. The
Cleary’s permanently moved to Big Bear Lake in 1995 from Laguna Niguel in
Orange County. They both take great pride in sharing their skills and
experience.
