California Assembly, Sacramento ____ Today January 13, 2017

Assemblyman Jay Obernolte (R-Hesperia) released the following statement on his opposition of Xavier Becerra’s nomination as California’s next Attorney General:

“While Congressman Becerra possesses many of the qualifications necessary in an Attorney General, many of his positions on constitutional issues deeply concern me,” said Assemblyman Jay Obernolte.

“His stances on both the 1st and 2nd Amendments clearly don’t align with my values or those of my constituents. California’s Attorney General should be committed to protecting these Constitutional rights.”

Congressman Xavier Becerra, was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1992, also Representative Xavier Becerra served as Chairman of the House Democratic Caucus. Becerra is also a member of the Committee on Ways And Means and is Ranking Member of the Ways and Means Subcommittee on Social Security.
