Murder Suspect in Custody
Early afternoon Tuesday May 17, 2016, Big Bear Sheriff Deputies responded to the report of a stabbing
in the Erwin Lake area in the 2100 block of East State Lane. Upon arrival, Deputies
located the victim who was suffering from apparent stab wounds. The victim was
transported to a local area hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
Witnesses advised Sheriff Deputies that a male suspect had fled the location of
the stabbing and was believed to be at a residence in the 2100 block of E.
Third Lane. Deputies responded to that location and located the male suspect.
The suspect was identified as 46 year-old
Joseph Vaughn, a resident of Big Bear City. Vaughn was immediately detained by the
Deputies.
Investigators from the San Bernardino County Sheriff
Department, Specialized Investigations Division, Homicide Detail responded to the Erwin Lake location to conduct an investigation.

Through investigation, Joseph Vaughn
was determined to be responsible for the death of the victim. Vaughn was
arrested without incident, transported and booked into the Big Bear Jail for PC
187 Murder.
