Seven
Vehicles Accident
at Big Bear Dam
State Route 18 approaching the Big Bear Dam
According
to California
Highway Patrol Public Information Officer Juan C. Quintero of the Arrowhead
Running Springs Regional Headquarters the traffic collision that caused a
temporary closure of State Route 18 at the Big Bear Dam Bridge, was determined to
be a minor accident involving seven vehicles.
Wednesday
November 25th at approximately 8:20 A.M., the balmy weather
conditions of low temperatures including light snow and rain during the night,
caused drivers to use great precaution. Their driving safely was challenged by the
wet pavement, when gusts
of wind blew in and pushed the clouds away, therefore the surface became
frozen. As a result, the vehicles lost traction and the drivers lost
control of the seven vehicles on the black ice.
San Bernardino Fire Big Bear - Responders were on the scene
within a few minutes to assist with rescuing occupants from the vehicles.
Highway Patrol and Caltrans closed SR-18 for two plus hours, while the emergency
agencies cared for the injured. Fortunately, there was a total of
two minor injuries and nobody was transported to medical facilities.
