I-15 Cajon Pass crossover lanes go into effect

A crossover lane allows one to two lanes of traffic to be shifted to lanes on the opposite side of the freeway through the construction work zones. Freight trucks are excluded from using the freeway through the construction work zones. The new lane configuration will occur on southbound I-15 from Oak Hill Road to 1.5 miles north of State Route 138. Traffic will be switched to run through the median.

One of three lanes will be moved to the northbound I-15 median and the other two lanes will be moved to the southbound I-15 median. Construction will take place on the existing lanes of southbound I-15.

The new traffic configuration, which will be in place for several months, will allow the project work to continue quickly and efficiently. A 60 MPH speed limit will be enforced within the construction limits; in addition, the existing median barriers will be upgraded to concrete barriers to reduce the risk of vehicle crossover collisions and maintenance pullouts will be constructed to reduce the exposure of maintenance personnel to traffic. Delays will exist throughout the project limits, so please plan your travel accordingly.
