Sacramento, California ____ Assemblyman Obernolte (R-Hesperia) announced today that Governor Jerry Brown signed eight of the bills he authored into law this year.

 “My legislative package this year focused on government efficiency and transparency,” Assemblyman Obernolte said. “I authored bills that address a wide variety of issues faced by my constituents. I believe that government should help the people it serves, not make their lives harder.  My legislation ranged from allowing a homeowner to rebuild their home after a catastrophic fire to making sure that military members do not have to jump through extra hoops to vote. My goal is to make our government work better for Californians.”


The following bills authored by Assemblyman Jay Obernolte of the 33rd Assembly District in 2017 were signed by Governor Brown: 


  • AB 195 – Enhances the transparency of ballot initiatives that levy taxes


  • AB 367 – Allows homeowners that use hauled water for part of their water supply to rebuild if their home is destroyed in a fire


  • AB 828 – Allows the prevailing party in litigation to recover fees for the electronic presentation of exhibits 


  • AB 1218 – Extends a California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) exemption to restripe bicycle lanes  

  • AB 1381 – Authorizes a funeral establishment to contract with a licensed embalmer to train an apprentice 


  • AB 1403 – Allows ve duty military members who move close to an election due to military orders to vote traditionally 


  • AB 1450 – Enables court reporters to transition to electronic delivery of court transcripts, while still allowing a paper transcript upon request 


  • AB 1523 – Authorizes design-build to be used to expedite the San Bernardino Mt. Vernon Avenue Viaduct project 


  • These bills will go into effect on January 1, 2018.
