Congressman Paul Cook Issues his Statement on Iran,

Tuesday May 8, 2018, in Washington D.C.  President Donald Trump announced that the United States was ending it's participation in the Iran Deal:

"Today's decision by President Trump to withdraw from the flawed Iran deal has been a long time coming. From day one, it was obvious that the deal lacked meaningful methods to verify Iranian compliance. The Obama Administration gave them billions of dollars in cash and sanctions relief, and in return, they continued to lie to the United States and the world about their intentions.

It's long past time to re-impose sanctions, rally our allies to work together to develop a real plan to address Iranian aggression, and continue to apply pressure on Iran. Any agreement must verifiably dismantle the Iranian nuclear and missile programs as well as end its support for terrorism.

I stand in strong support of working out a new deal promptly."

Iran nuclear deal

  • US President Donald Trump's decision to withdraw the US from the Iran deal threatens to scupper international efforts to constrain Tehran's nuclear ambitions.

  • His move to reimpose sanctions on the country could have consequences that reach far beyond Iran. So why is the US walking away from the accord without a Plan B? And who are the winners and losers in all of this?
