The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans)
District 8 is alerting the traveling public that the National Weather Service
(NWS) is predicting rain in addition to snow in lower elevations to arrive
Tuesday, February 5, from afternoon through the night.
The
storm will produce lower temperatures and possible snow levels down to 1,500
feet affecting the afternoon and evening commute tomorrow. Winds up to 40 mph
and low visibility are also expected during the storm.
Motorists
should be aware that snow accumulation and ice may be possible on the following
state highways during the third storm event:
•
I-15 from Devore to the High Desert and in Mountain Pass at State Line.
•
I-10 from Yucaipa to Banning.
•
State Route 62 (SR 62) in higher elevations such as Yucca Valley and Joshua
Tree.
•
State Route 74 (Ortega Highway) between Lake Elsinore and Orange County.
•
State Route 79 (SR 79) from San Jacinto to Beaumont.
•
State Route 60 (SR 60) from Moreno Valley to Beaumont.
•
All mountain routes, including SR 74 from Hemet to Palm Desert.

Motorists
are reminded to be alert, slow for weather conditions and use headlights while driving. Avoid
travel during storm events and check road and weather conditions before
you travel. Motorists should anticipate delays and longer travel time.
The
San Bernardino Mountain regions have Caltrans permitted and trained chain
installers available during chain control. Motorists
must carry chains or other legally approved traction devices. Chains are
not allowed on non-mountain routes.
